4H show--Fast cars, fruits and veggies

Hey, what's up, dogs?  Today we're back to our series about the 4H Agricultural Fair. Still lots of stuff to see here.

"Hey, laddie!"  Grandpa Angus called.  "Look at these tractors."

Man.  Those are some big machines, Grandpa.

"Indeed they are, laddie.  Big and powerful."  Grandpa sighed a bit wistfully.

Are you okay, Grandpa?

"Sure, laddie.  It's just...I always wanted to have a little farm of me own."

Really?  I didn't know that...

"Oh yes.  Well, maybe someday.  Oh...look over here!"

Wow...a racecar! That's right....this fairground used to be a speedway.  They don't race cars here anymore, but they make a mighty fine display.  Looks like this car has a trophy to its name.

Next up, the Produce tent.  Since I'm a meatatarian, I'm not overly excited about this display, but it's still interesting.

For instance...why did the bale of hay before me win First Prize, while the bale behind me won Second Prize?  I can't tell the difference.

Grandpa found some really knobby melons.  He said they remind him of his rheumatism.

We found some pumpkins.  That reminds me...Jerry & Ben's pumpkin-carving contest is coming up next month.

And...oh my goodness.  It's PUMPKINZILLA!

Just imagine all the doggone pies you could make with this thing! I suspect Sandy Bear's Mama or Grandma might have a good recipe somewhere.

All right, enough fruits and veggies.  What's next?  Find out next time!

Mail call!

Hey, what's up, dogs?  Taking a brief break from the 4H fair series to acknowledge some mail we received in the last month.  Sorry I'm running so late, but my human grandparents are moving, and my human has had a tight schedule recently.

Anyway...here we are.  We have two postcards...

One's from Little Fox's trip to San Francisco.  There's the Golden Gate Bridge.  What beautiful flowers!

And this one is from Ajdin's trip to Ohio.  Who knew so many U.S. Presidents came from Ohio?  There's William Harrison, Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, James Garfield, Benjamin Harrison, William McKinley, William Taft, and Warren Harding.  Very educational postcard, Ajdin!
Sigh.  All my friends go to such interesting places.  I wonder when I'll be able to take a trip of my own?

4H show, continued...

Hey, what's up, dogs?  This week on the blog, Grandpa Angus and I continue our tour of the 4H Agricultural Fair.  In our last post, we showed you the sheep and the goats.

This time...I see cows!  Hey, you guys!  Where's the beef?
Err...on second thought, maybe it's not polite to talk about beef in front of cows.  What do you think?

Over here we have llamas and alpacas.  My human has told me to keep a healthy distance from the llamas, as they are known to spit.
That didn't seem to stop this gentleman here:

Unfortunately for Little Fox, there were no fully mature chickens on display this year, because of the risk of bird flu.  But we did see some newborn chicks...

So tiny.  And a little wobbly.

And over here we have a rabbit named "Honeybear."  I thought this one might interest my bear friends.  It is kind of honey-colored, isn't it?

I'm loving this fair.  I wonder what sights we'll see next?...

4H show

Hey, what's up, dogs?  Today Grandpa Angus and I are going to the 4H Agricultural Fair.  There should be sheep, cows, goats, and horses.  I can't wait to see all the cool--

Err.  Hmmm.  This is an unexpected setback.

My human decided to be sneaky.  She hid us in her backpack and sneaked past the officials.  Don't tell anyone, please.

First stop, Sheep and Goats.  Awww...look at those baby goats!

The sheep below had just been sheared.  We were glad for it, because it was about 90 degrees outside.
Can you imagine...wearing a wool sweater in that kind of heat?  Poor sheep...

There was another sheep that was having a baaa-aaaa-aaaad hair day.  Heh heh, get it?  Baaa-aaa-aaad hair day?...

Here's a basket of spun and unspun wool.  This'll make some nice cozy sweaters when winter returns.
Looks like we're done with the Sheep and Goat Exhibits.  Wonder what's next?...
