Easter update, and tiptoeing through the not-tulips

Hey, what's up, dogs?  Last weekend was Easter, and our pal Sandy Bear sent us a card to remind us of the occasion.  Look at this adorable little fawn on the front cover.

You know, I haven't watched the Bambi movie in a long, long time.  I have the urge to watch it now.  A Meat Lover's pizza does sound like a good alternative to chocolate...I'll get my human on that right away.  Thanks, Sandy!

On the same weekend, my human and I took a field trip to track down the Texas state flower, the bluebonnet.  Sometimes you can see a few here or there along the side of the highway, but if you're willing to take a longer drive, you can find places like this...

Wow.  I mean....just WOW.  It's like a wall-to-wall carpet of flowers!

A dog could get lost in a field like this.

The blue flowers are, obviously, the bluebonnets.  There are red Indian paintbrushes as well.  Occasionally you'll see a soft pink flower mixed in...those are the Texas primroses, and they're much more common.  There are a couple of primroses at the bottom left of the photo below...

Oh, hey, look at this.  This bluebonnet's a little different.  It's...well...not blue!  It's an albino bluebonnet.  This happens sometimes, when a mutant gene stops producing color.
"And apparently another mutation can also make them pink!" someone sang out, right behind me.

Really?  Wow, I didn't know that.  Good information, thanks!

--Who said that, anyway?....

...It's Ajdin.  Of course it's Ajdin.  I really shouldn't be surprised anymore...he seems to show up wherever we go.

Anyway, hope you guys had a great Easter holiday and enjoyed my bluebonnet adventure.  Until next time, remember...wag to the right!

Birthday mail!

Hey, what's up, dogs?  More mail!  My human admits to being jealous of the amount of mail I get.  I'm lucky to have so many friends sending me stuff.

Anyway...today it's from Sandy.   Look at all the adorable dog stickers!  The one on the bottom right bears an uncanny resemblance to Patch, don't you think?

And inside...it's a birthday wish!  Thanks, Sandy!

We also received an animated birthday e-card from Little Fox!  Unfortunately, my human is not smart enough to figure out how to post a picture of it here on the blog.  (That's definitely going to hurt her annual performance evaluation.)  Thank you just the same, L.F.!

Belated St. Patrick's Day greeting

Hey, what's up, dogs?  I'm here with another mail call today.  This time it's from Sandy Bear, who sent us a St. Patrick's Day greeting last week.  I can tell it's Sandy because of the custom postage stamp...and I can tell it's St. Patrick's Day-related because of all the shamrocks...

Oh, look!  It's a dog card!  Super cute.

Sandy asks if I had any green bacon to celebrate the holiday.  Unfortunately not.  Perhaps I should ask my human to prepare some green eggs and ham.  I've read about that somewhere...if only I could remember where...

Hope everybody had a great St. Paddy's Day!

Happy Belated Halloween!....and some delayed correspondence...

Hey, what's up, dogs?  Good to see all of you again...it's been a while!  I realized I neglected to post about my Halloween costume a few days ago, so here it is...

And from another angle...

I'm dressed as the main character from one of my human's favorite Disney animated movies.  Hope everyone is having an "oo-de-lally!" kind of day!

I also want to mention a couple of mailings I got since my last post.  Jerry and Ben sent me a postcard in July (yes, I know, JULY, and here we are in NOVEMBER.  Blame my secretary) telling me about their trip to Isle Royale National Park.  Despite the picture on the postcard, they did not see any moose.

Hey, I have a question...if the plural of goose is "geese," shouldn't the plural of moose be "meese"?  Just wondering...Thanks for the postcard, guys.

More recently, I got a card from Sandy, giving me an update on his recent adventures.  Lots of pretty floral stickers here, which he got from his Gramma.  Also note the signature Sandy postage stamp.  Good stuff!

Thanks, Sandy!  Tell your Gramma she has excellent taste in stickers.

Well, that's all for now.  What did you guys dress up as for Halloween?...

Mail call!...and Part I of Dog in the Desert

Hey, what's up, dogs?  Got some mail from Sandy earlier this month!

Hmm...that second card looks kinda familiar...it looks like one of the Easter cards I made back in 2020, during the Great Quarantine!  Nice blast from the past, Sandy!

Now, shortly after I got this mail, my human told me to pack for our first major trip since the pandemic began.  That meant a drive to the airport, and a ride through the x-ray machine (I haven't had to do that for a while!).  And a few hours later, we touched down in....

...Arizona.  Wow, it's dry here.  Gotta drink more water.  Fortunately, it's not as hot here as it is in midsummer.

One of our first stops was Jerome, which used to be a  mining town in Arizona.  You can still see the equipment that's been left behind.

A gold mine?  I'm there!

Minecart ride, anybody?...

The mineshaft below is called the Audrey Shaft, and is over 1900 feet deep.  According to the sign, that's taller than both the Empire State Building and the Eiffel Tower.  Whew!  Whatever you do, don't look down...

My human's feet.  Watch that first step....it's a doozy.

When the sun started to go down, we headed for our hotel in Sedona, Arizona.  I was ready for a long refreshing drink of water, a steak dinner, and a good night's sleep--

Huh?  What's this?

Oh.  Er...hmmmm.  (Pssst....You sneaked me up in your backpack, right?  Do you think they saw me?  ...No?  Ok.  I won't tell if you don't.)

Anyway...I'm off to get that steak dinner and get rested up for tomorrow.  More to come soon....see you later!

Mail!

Hey, what's up, dogs?  I am once again behind on posting about mail that I've received.

Last month, Sandy Bear sent me an awesome eagle card.  It was sent while Rose and Otto were visiting.  In it, Sandy also talks about having way too many zoo-kee-knee, and gives me an update on the coronavirus situation in his area.

I also received a postcard from Ajdin which was a blast from the past!

You might remember that a couple of years ago, he and I took a road trip to Utah and Las Vegas during the very hottest "dog days" of summer.  Or...hmmm.  Then again, you might not remember it, because...ahem...I never got around to posting about it.   Just take my word for it...like Ajdin said, it was indeed scorching hot!

Hope everybody is staying safe and healthy!

Guilt-induced stationery search

Hey, what's up, dogs?  This is my first post using the new Blogger format, so please bear with me if things don't look right.  I'm trying to teach my secretary to use the new tools, but you know how humans are...not so easy to train!

Anyway, I'm feeling guilty right now.  Why is that, you ask?  Because my friend Sandy Bear has sent 2 more mail installments since my last blog post, and I've been behind on my correspondence...

He's used lots of stickers, as usual.  I see Goofy and Pluto, so canines are well represented.  Canada has some nice postage stamps, too.

All right, I've gotta get my tail in gear and respond to these messages!

First step:  Look for cute stationery.  Sometimes my secretary and I will make our own greeting cards, but this time, I actually have some special store-bought cards that I think would be perfect...if I can just find them...

These are nice, but they're not the cards I was looking for.

Neither are these...

Nope, wrong sentiment.  Nope, wrong holiday.  Nope, wrong sentiment again...Where the heck are those cards?...
Aha!  Found them!
I think you'll agree that these are the perfect cards for me.

Well, I better start catching up on my correspondence.  Hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!  Till next time...

Sandy's postcard novel

Hey, what's up, dogs?  We got a whole STACK of postcards from Sandy in the mail recently...He explained that he's decluttering and trying to use up his stash.  Good idea!  He's given us quite a selection here...
He writes, "How are things going down in TX?  We have read that you guys are starting to reopen things."  --Yes, this is true.  We are slowly and cautiously starting to open up again, although most people are still social distancing and wearing masks in public.

Sandy also mentions that "My humans have gone to a...gasp...plant-based diet!" and he wants to know if I have an opinion on that.  Well, I personally would not be able to follow a meatless meal plan, but everyone's gotta do what's best for them.

Speaking of which...I hope the rumored shortages of meat remain just that--rumors!  Otherwise I will be one panicky pooch...

Anyway, thanks for the postcards Sandy!  Always good to get mail from my blog friends, especially when we're shut inside...
