Mini succulents kit

Hey, what's up, dogs?  Sorry it's been a while since my last blog entry...due to the pandemic, my human hasn't taken me on a lot of adventures recently.  Fortunately, our friend Ajdin sent me a Mini Succulent Terrarium Craft Kit quite some time ago, and I think assembling it will make a perfect blog post for today.

Looks like I might need some help.  Gonna recruit Patch, Spunky, and Grandpa Angus for this one.

Nice job guys!  These will look great on our bookshelf.  Thanks for sending it to us Ajdin!

Stuffie Olympics, Summer 2020

Hey, what's up, dogs?  Droop's Troop here (thanks for that name Sandy!), about to compete in the 2020 Summer Stuffie Olympics, sponsored by our friend Ajdin.

Team Droopy's event today is the 1 Meter Stuffie Mail Speedreading Relay, and our team is comprised of myself, Spunky, and Patch.  All of us are strong readers with extensive training.  Right, Patch?  How long have you been reading?

"Uh...ever since I learned how," replied Patch.

You see?  I told you.  A lifetime of experience.  How are you feeling, Spunky?  Any nerves at the thought of leading us off?

"A little bit, but overall I'm feeling good," said Spunky.  "I just want to get this over with."

Man, I know what you mean.  As for myself, I'm nervous.  Years of training for a competition that lasts just minutes!  So much pressure to perform!

"You'll do fine, lads," Coach McStuffie assured us.  "Just do what you did in practice.  Deep breaths.  Watch those handoffs.  And don't forget to have fun."

Thanks, Coach.  I needed that pep talk.  All right, is everyone prepped?  Okay, Spunky...ready...set...GO!

Wow.  Look at him go.  Perfect form!  Here comes the handoff...

"I'm done!" Spunky said.

I'm done too!  Come on Patch, bring it on home,  buddy.  You can do it!

"Aaaaaaand....done," Patch announced, placing the last piece of mail in the pile.
What a dismount!  And he stuck the landing!

"Well done, me lads!" Coach McStuffie beamed.
"That was great!" Spunky exclaimed.  "I don't think it could have gone any better."

Me neither!  Whew, I've worked up a sweat though.  Time to hit the showers while we await the other competitors' performances...

How does my garden grow?...

Hey, what's up, dogs?  I'm here to update you on our attempt to keep our orchids alive.  On that note...sadly, we had to say goodbye to them.  They were not doing well (yellowing leaves and zombified roots) and were starting to attract bugs.

A little depressing, but apparently orchids are quite finicky.  No matter...my human and I learned a lot about their care, which will help us if we should get another orchid in the future.

This experience did inspire my kennelmates and me to try our green paws at growing some easier plants, though.  Here's Spunky and Patch showing off their Green Onion Science Project.  My human saved the roots of some green onions just a few days ago.  These things grow super fast in nothing but water!
Grandpa Angus has a gardening project as well...he started some mint seeds in a pot several weeks ago, and they're growing, albeit slowly.

What else you got there, Grandpa?

"Well, laddie, since I've got me mint growing, I thought I'd also try growing some lemon balm.  Makes a good tea, I've heard.  And I'm going to start some chives, for cooking."
And here's my personal project, Mr. Avocado Pit.  As you can see in the close-up, he's sprouted a good-sized root and is beginning to produce a stem up top!  It took a long time, but it's been very exciting to see progress.

This gardening stuff is kind of fun.  I can see why my blog friends like it!  I only wish it had less to do with fruits and vegetables, and more to do with bacon.  Anyway...till next time...

Angus' costume contest prize

Hey, what's up, dogs?  My human handed me a piece of mail a few days ago...
So, being a logical dog, I opened it.

Oh hey, this is Jerry and Ben's prize package for Grandpa Angus' Halloween costume entry!  Hey Grandpa!

"What is it, laddie?" Grandpa asked.

You've got mail!

Look, here's a postcard of Minnesota...organized by regional "hot dishes."  Wow.  I never knew Minnesota was casserole country.

There's also a Starbucks gift card.

"Eh, how thoughtful!" Grandpa said.  "Now I can get a caffeinated treat.  Care to share, laddie?"

Er...thanks, Grandpa, but I'd better pass.  Caffeine doesn't really agree with me.

Thanks again, Jerry and Ben, for hosting the contest!  See you next time...

Old McStuffie had a farm, E-I-E-I-O

Guys!  Guys, come here, quick!!

"What?  What's wrong?"

Guess what!!

"What?"

Grandpa Angus bought the farm!!
"Oh, no!" Spunky gasped.  "I'm so sorry!  That's horrible!"

...What?  No, it's not!  It's great!

Patch looked horrified.  "What?  How can you say that?  He's your Grandpa!"

Er...Yes, he is.  He is indeed.  And it's a beautiful farm.

Patch looked confused.  "Wait.  Are we talking about the same thing?"

Well, I'm not sure what you're talking about.  But I'm talking about the 50-acre farm Grandpa just bought with his lottery winnings.

"OOOOOOH!" Spunky said, realization dawning.  "You mean...he LITERALLY bought an ACTUAL farm.  With chickens and cows and everything?"

Yeah!  ...Why, what did you guys think I meant?

"Well, when you say 'someone bought the farm,' it can also mean they died," Patch explained.

Oh.  OOOOOOH!  No, no, no.  Grandpa's perfectly fine.  He just left to sign some papers to close the deal.

"Whew!  That's a relief," Spunky said.

Whew indeed!  Glad we cleared up that misunderstanding.  See you guys next time!

Lucky foot

Hey, Grandpa.  Whatcha got there?

"Hello, laddie.  Well, you see, I went out yesterday and bought me some tickets for the lottery."

Oh, that's right!  Today is the big drawing for the PowerBark Lottery!  It's the biggest jackpot ever recorded in canine history!

"Indeed it is, me lad.  It's a long shot, but I thought I'd throw a few bones in the pot and see what happens."

"Well, you're a pretty lucky dog, Grandpa Angus," Patch said.  "Remember when we played poker?"

"Eh, but this is entirely different, laddie.  There must have been millions of tickets sold.  I wish there were a way to increase my luck."

To increase your luck...By Jove, I've got it!  Wait right here.  Don't move a muscle!

"Eh, now where is that lad off to in such a hurry?" Grandpa wondered.

"Wow, Grandpa Angus," Spunky said.  "So if you did win the lottery...what would you do with all that money?"
"Hmm.  Well, Spunky me lad, I've always wanted to own my own farm."

"A farm?  Whoa.  You mean...oink oink, moo moo, that kind of farm?"

"Aye, it's been me dream for a long while.  So I think that's where I'd put me money.  --Ah, here comes me grandson back again.  And who's that with him?..."

Hey, Grandpa. I brought Carrots.  He has exactly what we need for your situation.
"Hi there!" Carrots said brightly.  "Droopy tells me you're looking for a little luck boost today?"

"Aye," Grandpa replied.

"Well then, step right up and rub my foot!"

"I beg yer pardon?" Grandpa exclaimed.

It's a rabbit's foot, Grandpa.  You know, a LUCKY rabbit's foot?

"Don't worry, it's clean!" Carrots said.  "I just washed this morning."

"Oh," Grandpa hesitated.  "Er...okay then, laddie.  If you don't mind."

"Hee hee!" Carrots giggled.  "That tickles."

All right, thanks Carrots!  I guess we'll find out whether your lucky foot pays off.  Stay tuned everyone!  See you next time...
